Chevy's Chevelle SS 396 became America's most popular muscle car thanks in large part to the new styling it got for 1968, the two-door Chevelles 'intermediates' lost three inches of wheelbase and gained shapely new styling. Chevy's midsize muscle mainstay returned with 396-cid V-8 power, heavy-duty suspension, and F70X14 wide-ovals for a list price of just $2,875. The Chevelles interior was revamped, but bucket seats were a $111 option. Power front disc brakes ($100), Positraction ($42), and accent stripes ($30) were popular extras. The 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 was as close to an Everyman's muscle car as Detroit would ever get. Reliable and affordable, the three-year design cycle kicked off by the '68 version would outsell every other true high-performance machine of the day, and beat its share, to boot. ....

1973 Jeep CJ5

Restored 1973 Jeep CJ5 I purchased the CJ5 Jeep as a project somebody else gave up on after they did the majority of the costly repairs. I started out with the intentions of keeping this Jeep, so most of the time spent was doing the job correct as possible without going over-board. But since my intentions of keeping vehicles never really follow through - I have come to face the fact that rather than being selfish, and keeping all of my so-called project vehicles - I would rather pass on my efforts, and save as many clunkers from the junk yard as possible.

The Jeep CJ-5 had the longest run of any production Jeep vehicle stretching from 1954 to 1984. CJ Models were updated in 1953, becoming the CJ-3B. It was the first Jeep CJ with noticeable body changes from its military predecessor. It had a taller body grille and hood to accommodate the new Hurricane F-Head four-cylinder engine. Although it had the same displacement as the original "Go Devil" engine, the "Hurricane" featured a revised valve train. The CJ-3B remained in production until 1968 and a total of 155,494 were manufactured in the U.S.

1965 Chevelle Malibu SS

Restored 1965 Chevelle Super SportThe 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS was a separate series from the 300, 300 Deluxe & Malibu series and can be readily identified by both the trim tag, and the vehicle identification plate (VIN). The 1965 Malibu SS was available in both sport coupe, and convertible models with either 6 cylinder or V8 engines - As with all years of Super Sports, the VIN only depicts the base engine and does not indicate any optional engine sizes.

In March of 1965 a run of 200/201 special Malibu SS 396 Chevelles were built at Kansas City, under regular production option Z16, in preparation of the SS396 to be introduced in 1966 as a separate series from the Malibu. The 1965 Malibu SS added a few more external identifications over the 1964 model. The Chevelle Malibu SS also included bucket seats, center console for 4-speed & automatic transmissions, and actual gauges versus dummy lights - Although the tachometer was optional. Three-speed manual transmissions did not have a console and the automatic could be ordered with a column shift and have the console deleted. If a column-shift was requested the bucket seats were still standard but the bucket seats could be swapped for a bench seat. 10-bolt or 12-bolt rear ends can't be ........

First Generation Monte Carlo Information

1971 Monte CarloThe Monte Carlo was originally created as Chevrolet's counterpart to the then new G-body Pontiac Grand Prix, which had been introduced for model year 1969. For the 1968 model year, GM had instituted a split-wheelbase policy for its A-body intermediate cars. The Grand Prix was a two-door coupe riding a special version of the A-platform (known as the "G-Body"). Rather than add the extra length within the body to increase passenger space the G-body (also known as the A-body Special) spliced the extra length between the firewall and the front wheels, creating an unusually long hood. The look was very successful, and the new Grand Prix greatly outsold its larger, B-body predecessor despite higher prices.

The Monte Carlo was conceived by Elliot M. (Pete) Estes, general manager of Chevrolet, and Chevrolet's chief stylist, Dave Holls. They modeled the styling on the contemporary Cadillac Eldorado, although much of the body and structure were shared with the Chevrolet Chevelle (firewall, windshield, decklid, and rear window were the same). New exterior styling featured concealed windshield wipers.

The standard powertrain for the Monte Carlo was the 350 Chevrolet "Turbo-Fire" small-block V8 with a two-barrel carburetor, rated at 250 hp at 4500 rpm and 345 ft·lbf of torque at 2800 rpm, mated to a column-mounted 3-speed Synchro-Mesh manual transmission. Front disc brakes were standard equipment. The dashboard was basically identical to the Chevelle except for fake wood trim, and higher grade nylon upholstery and deep-twist carpeting were used. Base priced at ..........

Brief Harley Davidson History 1901-2009

2005 Harley DavidsonHarley Davidson often abbreviated HD or Harley, is an American motorcycle manufacturer founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the first decade of the 20th century. Harley Davidson was one, of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression. Harley Davidson also survived a periods of poor quality control, and competition from Japanese manufacturers. Harley Davidson sells heavyweight motorcycles designed for cruising on the highway, and have a distinctive design and exhaust note. Harley Davidsons are especially noted for the tradition of heavy customization that gave rise to the chopper-style of motorcycle. Except for the modern VRSC model family, current Harley Davidson motorcycles reflect the styles of classic Harley Davidson designs.

In 1901, William S. Harley, age 21, drew up plans for a small engine with a displacement of 7.07 cubic inches, and four-inch flywheels. The engine was designed for use in a regular pedal-bicycle frame. Over the next two years Harley and his childhood friend Arthur Davidson labored on their motor-bicycle using the northside Milwaukee machine shop at the home of their friend Henry Melk. It was finished in 1903 with the help of Arthur's brother Walter Davidson. Upon completion the boys found their power-cycle unable to conquer Milwaukee's modest hills without pedal assistance. Will Harley and the Davidsons quickly wrote off their first motor-bicycle as a valuable learning experiment.

Work immediately began on a new and improved Harley Davidson second-generation machine. This first "real" Harley Davidson motorcycle had a bigger engine of 24.74 cubic inches with 9.75 inches flywheels weighing 28 lb. The machine's advanced loop-frame pattern was similar to the 1903 Milwaukee Merkel motorcycle . The bigger engine and loop-frame design took it out of the motorized-bicycle category and would help define what a modern motorcycle should contain in the years to come. The boys also .........

Toughest Beetle Hybrid - The BAJA!

1966 VW BAJAFollowing text is just a brief history of the Volkswagen Beetle, and what people did to make it more off road compatible over the years. The Volkswagen Type 1 was an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW). It used an air cooled rear engined rear wheel drivelayout. In the 1950s it was more comfortable and powerful than most European small cars, having been designed for sustained high speed on the Autobahn, and ultimately became the longest-running and most-produced automobile of a single design.

The car was originally known as Kafer, the German word for "Beetle", from which the popular English nickname originates. It was not until August 1967 that the Volkswagen corporation itself began using the name Beetle in marketing materials in the US. While the VW purist would rather die than cut up the perfect shape of a classic VW Beetle, others, more into the modifying scene, aren't content with the looks of a standard Beetle, and hence came the Baja.

Even the lowslung German lookers with wide wheels and big engine don't quite look scary enough. For these people, the word 'sacred' does not occur in their dictionary. Only one thing will suffice, the "BAJA BUG." The baja look is given the name, because it imitates the BAJA1000 off road race in Mexicali. This tough race took place in sandy desert-like terrain, and thus the competitors had to have cars that would take ........

1978 Pontiac Firebird

FirebirdProbably one of the last so called muscle cars in the Firebird line-up that was actually trying to increase horsepower under federal regulations for smog control - Beginning in 1978, Pontiac engineers reversed years of declining power by raising the compression ratio in the Pontiac 400 through the installation of different cylinder heads with smaller combustion chambers. The 1977 Pontiac 400 engines also had the 350 heads bolted to the 400 blocks, these heads were known as the 6x4 heads taken from the Pontiac 350. This increased power by 10% for a total of 220 during the 1978-79 model years.

In 1979 Pontiac sold 116,535 Trans AMs which still holds the record to this day. In 1980, due to ever-increasing emissions restrictions, Pontiac dropped all of its large displacement engines. 1980 therefore saw the biggest engine changes for the Trans Am. The 301, offered in 1979 as a credit option, was now the standard engine. Options included a turbocharged 301 or the Chevrolet 305 small block. In the final year of the Second Generation Firebirds (1981), Trans Am still used the same engines as it had in the previous model year, with the only change being the addition of a new electronic fuel injection system.

I drug this 1978 Pontiac out of a field after it had been long forgotten as a piece of muscle car history, and with very little effort was able to bring it back to life - Not only mechanically wise, but gave it a mild face lift without going overboard. It was missing the original cowl induction hood & several other items, so I was forced to make it a sleeper - By not installing several of the trade marks it originally came with. Which made it kind of fun messing with people as I smoked em.

1964 Chevelle Malibu

1964 Chevelle MalibuThis was a rusted out wreck I brought home on a spur of the moment purchase from eBay.

I was expecting BAD NEWS for the 1964 Chevelle, but after looking it over - It was actually pretty solid except for the surface rust.

Since it was missing the engine / transmission, and interior was hacked up - It left the door wide open not worrying about originality.

After dropping in a 327 engine / auto trans, and running it around the block - I needed MORE HORSEPOWER - So in went a big block 396 / Muncie M21.
